Description

Single light

No photographer starts out an expert in the studio. Like everything else, studio lighting is a learned craft. This workshop aims to teach you the core lighting techniques and principles that should be in every studio photographer’s repertoire. Each point is discussed in simple no-nonsense terms with real life lighting demonstrations before your very eyes. You’ll come away equipped with the how, what, when and why to give you increased understanding, confidence and enjoyment in every situation.

Like so many other’s, I didn’t always love the studio. I had to learn just like everyone else. Now, I absolutely love the studio for the control it gives me over lighting and environments. In this workshop, I wish to come full circle and share some of my knowledge and love of studio lighting with you. I want you to leave with newfound confidence and understanding of what is possible in the studio.

The following lighting styles, patterns and terminology will be discussed and demonstrated with a real model in a real life studio environment. You’ll get to shoot many of the styles yourself with your own camera. We’ll start each demonstration very simply with a single light source, and explore and discuss what each individual light or lighting style can achieve on its own. What are the strengths and what are the shortcomings of each light and each style? How can we modify or improve them? We’ll then build the complexity, the knowledge and understanding as we progress throughout the workshop.
