Single light

I love to shoot with available or natural light, as much as anyone, but I also love the total control I have over lighting and environments in the studio. This love of studio did't just happen, though. It came through knowledge, practice and understanding. Learning, seeing the results and getting comfortable in the studio. I was lucky that I had a great teacher and mentor who shared his great knowledge and understanding with me, and I have been forever grateful. In this workshop, I wish to come full circle and share some of my knowledge and love of studio portrait lighting with you. I want you to leave with newfound confidence and understanding of what is possible for you.

If you take a moment to answer these following questions, you'll know for yourself whether this workshop is for you or not: Are you completely comfortable, confident and at home in a studio? Are you always happy with your results? Are you sometimes disappointed and you are not sure why? This workshop will endeavour to point you in the right direction. Give you a great starting point of understanding. All the following lighting styles, patterns and terminology will be discussed and demonstrated, in real life studio environments, with a real life model. You'll get to shoot many of the styles yourself with your own camera and you will get to see all the others come up on the big screen when I'm shooting tethered. We'll start off very simple, and explore what each individual light or lighting style can achieve on its own. What are the strengths and what are the shortcomings of each light? How can we modify or improve them? We'll then build the complexity, the knowledge and understanding as we progress throughout the workshop.
